Profile
Step into a wilder world where wilderness and family-friendliness combine. Come and enjoy each season, from ducklings to migrating swans - you’ll be amazed at how close you can get to fantastic wetland wildlife.
The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity that saves wetlands, which are essential for life itself. Wetlands are the primary source of drinking water for people and wildlife. They also connect us with nature, and with ourselves, through beautiful landscapes and inspiring encounters with wildlife.
WWT’s ethos starts with the simple act of feeding a duck. That innocent connection with nature is more special if you’re feeding – say - the world’s rarest goose, saved from extinction by our expert aviculturists. It’s even more special if you’re surrounded by some of the UK’s top wildlife at one of our world class reserves, carefully designed and managed so wildlife will flourish.
We take this wetland expertise around the world. We rescue endangered species from the edge of extinction. We investigate what’s damaging the wetlands on which people and wildlife depend. We protect, repair and actually create exciting new wetlands for people and wildlife.
We work with communities, businesses and governments to help people live sustainably alongside wetlands, benefitting from the water, food, materials, shelter, livelihoods and enjoyment a well-managed wetland can provide.
WWT is one of the world’s leading science and conservation institutions in its field. But we’re unique because we never forget it all starts with the simple pleasures, like feeding a duck. And maybe a nice cup of tea.

Good day out
We visited during May half term with our two daughters aged 5 and 2 years. We loved watching hatching eggs, although it's quite a slow process we were very impressed. The Wild Walk is brilliant and finding the hidden parts is very entertaining. I would recommend this as an educational day out.
Plenty to see and do at Martin Mere all year round
Plenty to see and do at Martin Mere all year round, with more than 100 types of rare and endangered water-birds to hand feed, a family of beavers and enchanting otters in residence, an imaginative playground for young adventurers, an inspirational eco-garden and a rolling programme of events, walks and talks.
In autumn, up to 40,000 pink-footed geese use the reserve as a stopping point on their migration from Iceland providing a rare opportunity to see the display of thousands of geese whiffling over the mere. The geese are only with us a few weeks making this a must see attraction in October.
In winter, many thousands of wild ducks, geese and swans are drawn to the internationally-rated wetlands, offering spectacular displays of feather and flight with an award winning experience called Swan Spectacular, watching thousands of swans feed everyday.
Beautiful. Well worth a visit with children aged 1-8 yrs
Beautifully set out wildlife centre.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Gorgeous pond areas and lots of activities for the children.
Very good play area at the end of the wildlife walk with a zip wire and intriguing water park.
Well worth the entrance fee. We will be going again very soon.
Lovely day out.
Had a great day today at Martin Mere, went with our 15 month old-very easy to get around and everything is so nicely laid out. If you book online its a bit cheaper and it's well worth it, lots of great birds to look at and feed. Loved the otters and the ducklings. Lots of great picnic spots and the playground is good too. Didn't see too many birds in the wild bit but still really enjoyed walking round. We will definitely return.
Fab day out for kids and bird lovers
Our kids love Martin Mere. Loads for them to see and do and a great walk round. A lovely play area, canoe ride, welly walk as well as plenty of bird watching facilities.
We are members which works out great as we can go as many times as we like at no extra cost. Would be expensive for a one off day trip.
